Commonly Well announces the hiring and appointment of John Hulick, an experienced public sector expert and innovator

Commonly Well appoints former New Jersey state and Palm Beach County, Florida Drug Czar to lead its strategic initiatives

POTSDAM, NY – June 27, 2025 – Commonly Well, a leader in resilience and recovery services and technology, today announced the appointment of John Hulick as Director, Strategic Partnerships and Government Affairs. In this executive leadership role, Hulick will spearhead the company’s public and private partnership initiatives, drive the adoption of its innovative resilience and recovery solutions, and position Commonly Well as a thought leader in the public health and technology sectors.

In his new role, Hulick will work closely with Commonly Well’s executive team to develop and execute strategies for public and private sector partnerships, advocate for the adoption of resilience and recovery technologies at federal, state, and local levels, and establish a go-to-market strategy targeting public sector opportunities, including opioid settlement funds. He will also lead efforts to position Commonly Well as a thought leader through media, conferences, and public forums.

With over three decades of experience in government relations, public policy, and strategic partnerships, Hulick brings a wealth of expertise to Commonly Well. Most recently as Palm Beach County, Florida’s Drug Czar, where he was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to lead the county’s response to the opioid epidemic; established the Office of Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorders; and, designed a person-centered, recovery-oriented ecosystem of care which integrated Commonly Well’s resilience and recovery capital indexing and services as critical components. 

Hulick’s innovative Master Plan for opioid settlement funds, which allocated 90 percent of $120 million in anticipated revenues to social determinants of health, has been recognized as a national model. He also co-founded the Center for Integrated Recovery and Wellness Studies at Florida Atlantic University and successfully lobbied for increased federal recovery grant funding during his tenure.

Hulick’s career also includes being nominated by New Jersey Governor Christopher Christie and confirmed by the State Senate to serve as Executive Director of the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, where he shaped substance use disorder service policies.  Prior,  he  served as Christie’s Policy Advisor for Human Services, Children and Families where he influenced human and child protection services and budget policy. 

As Managing Partner of In Depth Solutions, LLC, he guides public and private sector organizations in achieving strategic growth and navigating regulatory environments. A pioneer in substance use disorder services for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, Hulick founded Signs of Sobriety, Inc., and played a key role in enacting landmark legislation to provide services to this community.

Hulick, who has been in recovery from alcoholism for over 39 years, brings a deeply personal perspective to his work, informed by his and his family’s experiences navigating his daughter’s mental illness and substance use disorder challenges. His commitment to consumer protections and quality care will guide Commonly Well’s mission to deliver person-centered, outcome-driven solutions.

Hulick holds a Master of Science in Public Policy from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Western New England University. His appointment is effective immediately.
